Design with the WoW Factor | Christopher Davis
World of WearableArt (WOW) sustainability award winner, Christopher Davis shares insight to his creative process, queer influences and the experience of designing garments for WOW. Join us for this one-hour talk and showcase of some of Christopher’s garments that have graced the WOW stage.
Christopher is a landscape designer and garment designer based in South Auckland. At 18 he accompanied his mum to Wellington and witnessed his first WOW. He was hooked. By 20 he had won his first sustainability award with ‘Itchy Stitch’, a bodice made completely out of knitting needles salvaged from op shops meeting the criteria of 85% post-consumer repurposed materials. Christopher’s innovative designs have had regular acceptance into the competition, featured on an Air New Zealand advertisement, appeared in Italian Vogue and been displayed at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
A must for fashion-show lovers, out-of-the-box thinkers and budding designers. Join us for an inspiring talk on how creativity became a medium of self-expression and helped Christopher embrace being both gay and dyslexic.
